Shimano Europe moved to acquire its Polish distributor R&P Pawlak last month as the country noticeably becomes an important location for manufacturing bicycles. The group said that the decision came after a few years of steady growth in the country’s consumption of bicycles and their components. It was also strongly linked to Poland’s fast becoming a supply source for bicycles to Western Europe, and several Asian companies have started using it as a manufacturing base. Additionally, Poland is next to Belarus, where Shimano expects to push bicycle consumption, as well as in Russia, before moving some manufacturing to those territories. The staff and current management at the Polish company will be kept on.
