Signa Holding, the Austrian-based real estate company that controls Karstadt and Karstadt Sports, recently acquired a majority stake in Outfitter, a multi-channel sporting goods retailer, in order to support Karstadt Sports' online retail business. Signa Retail aims to position Karstadt Sports as Germany's biggest sporting goods retailer. Meanwhile, Karstadt Sports has launched a marketing campaign under the tagline “fitness instead of fatness,” inviting its customers to exchange fast-food-vouchers from McDonalds, Burger King and other fast-food chains for discounts on all the sporting goods sold in its stores. The campaign ends on April 27.
