Simon Rider has been confirmed as the chief executive of the Karstadt Sports chain. The former head of Foot Locker Europe has been touted for the job since last July. Miguel Mullenbach remains in charge of sales. Furthermore, André Maeder will assume a new position as CEO for Karstadt Premium, an entity that groups three high-end department stores in Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. The rest of the Karstadt group, with its 83 remaining department stores, will be run by Eva-Lotta Sjostedt, a former executive of Ikea. As previously reported, an Austrian real estate company, Signa Holding, has acquired a 75 percent stake in Karstadt Sports and Karstadt Premium from Nicolas Berggruen. Its future plans are unknown. Reports indicate that it plans to share ownership of the real estate part with the Beny Steinmetz Group, named after a diamond dealer whose fortune is estimated by Forbes at around €3 billion.
