In an interesting diversification, Skiset, the big French-based ski rental agency, has created a new subsidiary, Skiset Holidays, to market holiday packages all year round. For the launch of its services in this complementary domain, mostly over the internet, it is capitalizing on a database of about 500,000 customers in Europe and the U.S. who have already rented ski equipment through Skiset and its North American licensee, Christy Sport.

The new subsidiary is offering three types of holiday packages. It is proposing ski holidays through its main website. Another website, Myskiset.com, is offering seaside holidays in French, Spanish and French Caribbean resorts. The third type of holiday consists of renting boats with skippers in the Caribbean as well as in Mediterranean areas such as Croatia, Turkey or Greece. This new service is being made possible through the acquisition of a French boat rental agency, Cool Sailing.

Ski rentals remain the core business of Skiset, which currently works through about 750 stores in Europe and 100 in North America, according to a recent report. The company is developing the sale of high-margin ski accessories under its own private label, SK. They can be delivered quickly and they may represent up to 30 percent of the partner stores' revenues at a later stage, according to the report.
