Snipes, the German-based sneaker and streetwear retail chain owned by Deichmann, is expanding to Poland with the acquisition of Distance, a retail chain founded in 2003 that sells soùoamr products through 31 physical stores in the country and an online shop that can be accessed from 20 European countries. No financial details were released about the deal, which still has to obtain regulatory clearance. The takeover will expand Snipes’ overall network of brick-and-mortar stores to 440 units and give it a foothold in Eastern Europe. The Cologne-based retailer is already active in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Portugal, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and the U.S. The owner and managing director of the Polish chain, Waldemar Więcek, will remain with Snipes as country manager.
