CMDsport reports that Green, an association of 13 independent mountain sports retailers in Spain, is set to launch next year a website, called The Green, to promote the association’s name to suppliers and consumers alike. According to Carles Raimundo, owner of Foracorda, a store in Palma de Mallorca that belongs to the association, the website feeds into the association’s raison d’être, which is to enable small players to band together to secure better terms with suppliers, fill gaps in one another’s product selection and share logistics. It helps “even on the emotional level,” says Raimundo. Each retailer places separate orders, but the retailers are so networked as to share products to satisfy customers. At least for now, the website will not serve for e-commerce or to revive the Green brand of products.
Green is open to new members, as long as the retailers specialize in similar products, are not in direct competition with current members and do not belong to any similar associations. They should also employ a store coordinator to handle relations with the other members.
Green’s members operate in eight of Spain’s autonomous communities: Castilla y León (Deportes Córdoba, Deportes Summit), Valencia (Deportes El Refugio, Vents de Muntanya), Catalonia (Gr-Zero, Illa Esport), Galicia (Terra Deportes, Xistrail Mountain), Navarre (Basati Kirolak), the Balearic Islands (Foracorda), the Basque Country (Hamaika Mountain) and Asturias (Oxígeno).
