Speedo has signed a licensing and distribution contract for the Korean market with Basic House, which plans to launch a series of Speedo stand-alone stores in the country from next year. Speedo’s partner in the Philippines, Sprint, has just opened its 18th store under this brand name, while another brand of Pentland Group, Berghaus, has accumulated a similar number of stores in Korea through its local distribution partner, Hankuk. A Japanese company, Kamel, has agreed to distribute Pentland’s licensed Lacoste brand of footwear in its country. Pentland also reports excellent reactions to a new range of Ellesse footwear and clothing, positioned in the luxury segment of the sports market for sale in 2007. Warren Cohen, the new managing director of Ellesse, is working closely with Goldwin, owner of the trademark in Japan, to launch similarly positioned lines in that market.
