Sport Holding, the Norwegian retail group formed in 2020 after Gresvig, the Norwegian licensee of Intersport, and Sport 1 Gruppen merged, announced that it is acquiring 100 percent of the shares of Bergans Fritid AS, one of the major outdoor clothing and equipment companies in Norway. The group, including Sport 1, Intersport, Anton Sport, Löplabbet, Sportsnett and Skandinavisk Høyfjellsutstyr, has more than 360 company-owned and franchised stores throughout Norway and reported retail revenue of around 6 billion Norwegian kroner (€579m-$680m) in 2020. Bergans, founded in 1908, will be managed independently of Sport 1, Intersport and other chain concepts in the Sport Holding Group “to safeguard the uniqueness of the brand,” the company said. The parties have agreed not to disclose the price of the transaction. Closing is subject to approval by the Norwegian Competition Authority. More in the Outdoor Industry Compass.
