Sport-Tone, a French start-up based in Grenoble, has announced the development of the first sports goggle that enables listening to music through bone conduction, which is the conduction of sound to the inner ear through the bones of the skull. The new goggle is called S•tone and is composed of UV-protective glasses and a silicone band. The waves emitted by the four transducers on the silicone headband are carried by the frame of the skull directly toward the inner ear. A fundraising campaign is currently underway on Kickstarter for both the S•tone Swim, for swimming, and the S•tone Bike, the equivalent for cycling. The French company hopes it will raise €60,000 to produce the first two versions of the S•tone, which are expected to be available in June 2017 at a price of €179.
