South Korean automotive brand Genesis takes its European golf strategy beyond the professional tour, using an amateur tournament series to build consumer engagement across four markets as it expands its European footprint.

Genesis Motor Europe has launched the Genesis European Golf Cup, an amateur tournament series spanning six locations across four European countries, with the best-performing participants earning places at the Genesis Scottish Open professional tournament in July.

The inaugural edition runs from April 1 to May 23, with local qualifying events at six courses: Golf della Montecchia and Olgiata Golf Club in Italy, Golf de Bondues in France, The Grove in London, Golf Club Carimate in Milan and Golf Club Kornberg in Frankfurt. The format allocates up to four qualifying places per event; finalists will compete at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, on July 13 – the final day of the Genesis Scottish Open.

Amateur format extends the brand’s golf investment into direct consumer access

The tournament represents a step beyond title sponsorship of professional events. Rather than activating solely through broadcast and on-course visibility, Genesis is using competition entry as a mechanism for direct consumer engagement, structuring the amateur series around what it calls “a distinctly Korean approach to hospitality” – a positioning concept the brand applies across its professional golf portfolio globally.

Genesis launched in Europe in 2021 and currently operates in Germany, Switzerland and the UK, with expansion into Italy, France, Spain and the Netherlands planned for this year.

To enter, participants must be at least 18 years old, hold legal residency in their chosen qualifying country and carry a registered handicap index (HCP) of -36.0 or below issued by a recognised national golf federation. Applications for open-ballot events are now live, with deadlines ranging from April 8 for the Rome round to April 24 for the Frankfurt round.

The Genesis European Golf Cup joins an existing global portfolio that includes the Genesis Championship in Korea and, in the US, the Genesis Invitational, The President’s Cup and TGL – the tech-driven indoor golf league co-founded by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy that launched its inaugural season in early 2025.
