LME’s purchase of Motion Events GmbH gives the UK’s leading marathon organizer a direct operational stake in one of Europe’s fastest courses, deepening a cross-border strategy built around the newly launched European Marathon Classics series.

London Marathon Events (LME) has acquired Motion Events GmbH, the organizer of the prestigious Mainova Frankfurt Marathon as well as the Gutenberg Half Marathon Mainz and other running events. The announcement follows the news in March of TCS London Marathon’s involvement in a new European Marathon Classics series of marathons, including Frankfurt, designed to drive engagement across multiple events.

Jo Schindler, the founder of Motion Events, who has led the organization for more than two decades, will stay on as Race Director through 2026 and will continue as a board member to enable a smooth transition. Holger Kranz, previously Head of Sponsorship at Frankfurt Tourism, has been appointed as the new CEO to lead the business.

LME’s investment is set to boost Frankfurt’s economy with increased international visitors, hospitality revenues and greater involvement in the city’s tourism and events economy. LME will collaborate with Motion’s team and the city’s numerous running clubs to increase participation among under-represented communities, including women and people from diverse ethnical background, drawing on LME’s proven strategies across its UK events. Through initiatives like The Daily Mile and the TCS Mini London Marathon, LME has inspired activity among million of children and young people across the UK.

The Mainova Frankfurt Marathon, first held in 1981, is renowned for its fast course and indoor red-carpet finish into the Festhalle.
