Mexico City hosts the first of three opening ceremonies on June 11, 90 minutes before Mexico plays South Africa. Toronto and Los Angeles follow on successive days, each reimagining the FIFA World Cup Trophy through its host country’s cultural identity. The 104-match tournament concludes July 19 in New Jersey.
The FIFA World Cup 2026, scheduled to take place from June 11 to July 19, will be jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico and the US. As the first nation to kick off the tournament, Mexico will set the stage for a trilogy of opening ceremonies that will continue in Canada and the US.
On June 11, the kickoff of the tournament at Mexico City Stadium will be preceded by an opening ceremony showcasing performances by prominent international music artists, including Grammy Award-winning Mexican pop band Maná as well as Alejandro Fernandez, Belinda, and Danny Ocean among others. The show will start 90 minutes before Mexico plays South Africa in the opening match. The trilogy of opening ceremonies will then continue across Canada and the US. Developed in partnership with Balich Wonder Studio, each ceremony is connected by a consistent creative theme that reimagines the FIFA World Cup Trophy from the perspective of each host country’s cultural identity, explained the governing body.
“Starting with Mexico City and continuing the next days with Toronto and Los Angeles, these ceremonies will bring together music, culture and football in a way that reflects both the individuality of each nation and the unity that defines this tournament,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The FIFA World Cup 2026 will feature 104 matches across 16 host cities, culminating in the final on July 19 at New York / New Jersey Stadium.
