According to the Norwegian sporting goods industry association, Sportsbransjen, the country's major sporting goods chains raised their sales by 8 percent in the first half of 2015, when compared with the same period last year, with an increase of 4.8 percent in the second quarter. It is not sure whether the overall market has been moving at the same pace.

Sportsbransjen also gave some more detailed information on recent growth for three major players. XXL, which has already reported its quarterly figures, remains the driving force in the Norwegian sporting goods retail market. It achieved growth of 7.3 percent in the second quarter, up 4.8 percent on a same-store basis in line with the market, but with a growing proportion of online sales.

Stadion posted a growth of 6.3 percent in the quarter and an increase of 12 percent for the first half of the year, with organic growth amounting to 9.8 percent. Sport 1 increased sales by 7.4 percent in the second quarter and had a cumulative revenue growth of 11 percent for the first six months.
