Sports Direct International (SDI) is moving further into team sports: The leading British sports retailer and wholesaler, which owns a gaggle of sports brands, has acquired a majority stake in Vandanel Premier, a British team sports apparel specialist. Four years ago SDI acquired Sondico, another football brand that is strongly established in the U.K. The acquisition of the stake in Vandanel occurred last month but it just came to light as Vandanel announced that it was preparing to launch the Sondico Professional range. This will be sold to pro players and football clubs, and it will gradually replace the Vandanel brand. Meanwhile, Sports Direct will continue to sell the Sondico brand in its own stores.
