Sprinter, the growing Spanish chain of sporting goods stores controlled by JD Sports Fashion, is helping a cancer survivor, Juan Pedro Orellana, to collect funds for cancer research by running 28 marathons in 28 days. It will publicize his exploits and donate clothing to a team of runners and cyclists who will accompany him during the 1,000-kilometer race starting near Cádiz and ending in Santiago de Compostella.
Earlier this year, Sprinter announced that 90 of its stores had collected a total of 852 pairs of used running shoes from its customers, in exchange for a discount of 10 percent on the purchase of new products. The shoes were donated to Run4 Help, a program managed by a non-profit association, Figueralia, that organizes sports activities for disadvantaged people. The organization has collected more than 5,000 pairs of shoes through this program.
