Swedish newspapers have reported that Usports, the national sporting goods retail chain launched in 2011 with the opening of a 5,000 square meter store in Malmö, has filed for bankruptcy. The retailer has three large stores in Malmö, Sundsvall and Västerås and it intended to open about 20 stores around the country in the mid-term. However, it was faced with intensifying competition in the Swedish market after the entry of XXL from Norway, as well as Décathlon. The man in charge was Jonas Engwall, the founder of Skruf Snus, among others. He told Swedish newspapers that Usports had nearly overcome its start-up issues but the retailer had to file for bankruptcy because it no longer had the required financial resources.
