TaylorMade-Adidas has released a statement to distance itself from Sergio Garcia, in the wake of the racially tinged remark made by the Spanish golfer about his rival Tiger Woods. At the European Tour gala event on May 21, when asked if he would invite Woods over to his place, Garcia answered: “We'll have him round every night. We will serve fried chicken.” Woods replied via Twitter the following day that the remark was “wrong, hurtful and clearly inappropriate,” saying that, however, it was now time to “talk about golf.” In its statement, TaylorMade said that “Sergio Garcia's recent comment was offensive and in no way aligns with TaylorMade-Adidas Golf' values and corporate culture.” The company added that it was continuing to review the matter. Garcia has since apologized twice for the remark.
