TaylorMade Golf Company plans to open a golf ball manufacturing plant in Liberty, 28 miles east of its facility in Westminster, South Carolina. The 12,000-square-foot plant, in 25 acres, is expected to allow better material flow and reduced cost per unit. The current plant produces around 72,000 balls per day and 24,000,000 balls per year. The construction work is due to be completed by January, with the transition from Westminster to be finalized by July 2014. TaylorMade markets close to a dozen models of golf balls across the price spectrum. It has launched the Lethal, a premium five-piece multi-layer golf ball this year which, TaylorMade says, is currently the second-most popular ball played on the PGA Tour.
