The Adidas group is consolidating its distribution in the USA for Adidas and Reebok footwear and apparel into a single site for the two brands in Spartanburg, South Carolina, which is currently hosting the American distribution center for Adidas’ footwear lines. By the Fall of 2009, two new buildings will be erected there for both brands - a 1.1 million-square-foot distribution center for footwear and an 800,000-sqft. facility for apparel. The consolidation is intended to improve efficiencies and save costs. Consequently, Adidas will be closing its distributions centers in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Massachusetts as well as certain other facilities in South Carolina. The move will affect about 375 employees. Other distribution centers, including one for Rockport in Massachusetts, another for TaylorMade-Adidas Golf in California and those that handle the sports licensed division in Massachusetts, Indiana and Iowa, will remain unaffected.
