The DNA customized cushioning system of Brooks Sports is now available in the Glycerin 8 shoe. The company says that the patent-pending technology adapts to the changing amount of force placed on the foot with each step for stability as well as cushioning. Research by Brooks shows that DNA provides 30 percent better cushioning than usual gel or EVA materials, and gives double the energy return when maximum force is applied. It also works for women as well as men; typically running shoes that work well for men are too firm for women, but DNA levels the playing field. Brooks says that orders for the Glycerin 8, which retails for $130, are up by 27 percent in specialty running stores and by 43 percent in national account retail chains.
