The European Outdoor Group (EOG), will have a new general secretary, Arne Strate, who will succeed Mark Held as of Jan. 1. Strate, a 42-year-old German executive, joined the EOG in January 2016 as head of marketing and business development, after working in marketing for two action sports brands, Reef and Volcom. One of his accomplishments has been the expansion of the association's membership to more than 100 companies, including retailers, ingredient brands and, most recently, snowboard brands. Held, who will turn 60 in 2019, founded the association in 2003 together with Rolf Schmid, the former chief executive of the Mammut Sports Group. Held has agreed to provide support to Strate to ensure a smooth transition. He will continue as acting chairman of the Fair Wear Foundation, CEO of the European Outdoor Conservation Alliance (Eoca) and vice president and treasurer of Fesi, the Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry. He has his own consultancy and other projects in the pipeline. More in the Outdoor Industry Compass.
