The Labour Advisory Committee appointed by the government of Cambodia has decided to raise the minimum monthly wage for workers in the country's textile, apparel and footwear sectors by 28 percent from the start of next year. The new minimum wage of $128 is a compromise between a the labor unions' request to raise it by 40 percent to $140 and the employers' insistence on a ceiling of $121. Reports indicate that the unions may voice their disappointment.
