The national police of Spain and the municipal police of Madrid have broken up a counterfeiting ring in Spain's capital. They have arrested six people and seized some 2,000 items, mostly apparel, bearing the logos of football teams in the Champions League, Spain's LaLiga and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA). Through cooperation with other government forces abroad, a further 16,000 articles of clothing, with a value of €14,000, have been seized in the Braga district of Portugal. The merchandise was being imported from the Portuguese city of Guimaraes and stocked in a warehouse in Colmenar Viejo, about 30 km north of Madrid. It was then dispatched piecemeal, subject to demand, to a bar near Madrid's Santiago Bernabéu football stadium. From there it was distributed – with the help of websites – to a steady clientele of souvenir shops and street vendors operating near the stadium.
