The North Face (TNF) is launching an outerwear jacket that utilizes microbially-produced protein materials, as opposed to petrochemical resources. The Moon Parka is made with Brewed Protein, the protein fibers manufactured using Spiber's proprietary fermentation (brewing) process. Spiber is a Japanese biotech start-up. The jacket is set for a limited release of 50 items in Japan on Dec. 12.
