Emerald Expositions, the organizer of the Outdoor Retailer show, has decided to cancel the Winter Market that was scheduled to take place for the second time on Nov. 5-7 and to concentrate all the product offerings for the next autumn/winter season at the Outdoor + Snow Show on Jan. 19-31. The decision was made in concert with the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA), key brands and retailers. Strongly criticized by Snow Sports Industries of America (SIA), the Winter Market had been established to cater especially to the demands of the softgoods segment, whose product development and sourcing cycle is different from that of the outdoor and snow sports equipment segment. In the end, however, the majority of the OIA’s members and numerous retailers agreed that it would be better to bring the entire community together for a single show in the U.S., like Ispo Munich in Europe. Nevertheless, as in the past, the Grassroots Outdoor Alliance, which represents 70 independent outdoor retailers and about as many vendors, will stage its own more minimalistic Grassroots Connect show in Denver from Nov. 1 to 5.
