The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and Adidas are extending their sponsorship deal through 2030. Adidas originally supplied the Spanish national team's jersey from 1981 to 1983. The present deal dates back to 1991. As recently as last June (see SGI Europe Vol. 30 N°19+20), Adidas was threatening to take legal action against the RFEF, which was considering a suit for breach of contract over Adidas' purported failure to meet stipulated criteria of legality, transparency and fairness. Since then, however, the RFEF's negotiations with other apparel suppliers have apparently come to nothing. The two organizations have also just presented the Spanish team's new look for the Uefa European Championship 2020. The jersey draws from a highly pixelated photo of the Spanish flag while commemorating the centenary of the uniform from the team's first international tournament.
