The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) incorporated e-mountain biking (e-MTB) into its regulations in January of this year and included e-MTB races in its UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in August. In September, with e-road races and international expansion on the horizon, the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) responded to this shift in the industry by setting up a committee to help develop rules for the sport. The committee made its debut at last month's Eurobike show. One immediate objective is to get the UCI on board, especially because the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) is already involved. According to Robbert De Kock, WFSGI's president and chief executive, the committee needs more e-bike brands and especially more e-bike component makers, which should in turn attract the UCI. A previous ad-hoc committee met last year, with representatives from companies such as Bosch and Shimano in attendance.
