The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) said it has welcomed the targets announced by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to reduce physical inactivity. In June 2018, the WHO published its Global Action Plan on Physical Activity 2018-2030: More Active People for a Healthier World. The plan calls for a reduction of global physical inactivity of 10 percent by 2025, and of 15 percent by 2030. On Dec. 4, 2018, representatives of the sports sector met with the WHO in Geneva to discuss what “effective action” could be taken to help make that plan a reality. The WFSGI was represented at the meeting by its head of strategic and external affairs, Emma Mason. One of the objectives of the December meeting was to engage in preparatory discussions for a larger dialogue between the WHO and the sports industry to be held in the first quarter of 2019.
