Thierry Revol, former general manager of Technicien du Sport, the French buying group, shares his personal insights into the workings of such organizations in a new book titled “L’Avenir du Commerce Indépendant en France: Fin d’une Epoque ou Métier d’Avenir?” (“The Future of Independent Retailing in France: The End of an Era, or a Promising Trade?”). Launched this week by Editions Glénât, the book analyzes the French sports trade and the weaknesses of its buying groups. However, Revol also outlines suggestions on how to improve the business model, in order to make it more efficient and competitive. Revol started his career in the sports business at Go Sport, becoming the manager of the banner’s first store in 1977. From 1987 until 2005 he was the general manager of Technicien du Sport, which became Twinner.
