Three major French trade associations – Fifas, FPS and Univélo – are set to merge on Nov. 24 following a decision by the respective boards of directors. While Fifas groups sporting goods vendors, FPS represents sporting goods retailers and Univélo the bike dealers. Fifas had resisted the move for many years, mainly because of competition from Decathlon, the most important member of FPS, which is also a major supplier through its own private labels. FPS and Univélo had already joined forces before. The new group will be steered by Virgile Caillet, a former manager of Asics and Kantar Sport who became executive director of Fifas in September 2014.
