Tiger Woods’ new apparel brand, Sun Day Red, faced criticism during the PGA Championship’s opening day as the golfer struggled with visible sweat issues. Launching earlier this year after ending a longstanding partnership with Nike, Woods’ brand aims to redefine golf wear. At golf club Valhalla, Woods appeared in a salmon pink polo shirt, grey trousers, and a white cap featuring the brand’s logo – a leaping tiger composed of 15 stripes representing his major wins.
However, despite the stylish debut, the high humidity in Kentucky posed a challenge, with the shirt’s wicking material failing to perform as expected. This led to noticeable perspiration during Woods’ early game, drawing comments from sports journalists. The Athletic remarked, “I feel like the one thing Sun Day Red should have prioritized is making golf shirts that even Tiger Woods can’t sweat through.” Similarly, Barstool Sports commented on the inevitability of Woods sweating through any material under such conditions.
Woods, who shot a 72 to tie for 85th at one-over par after the first round, showcased the brand at the Masters earlier in the year. Despite the performance issues, the salmon pink polo worn by Woods is priced at $120 and is currently sold out.
