Titleist golf balls and FootJoy golf shoes brought double-digit increases in sales to their parent company, Fortune Brands, for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31. Growth in Asia helped the company’s golf brands perform better than the market. Sales for Acushnet, which comprises Fortune Brands’ three golf brands (Titleist, FootJoy and Cobra), increased by 6.9 percent to $226.9 million. Comparable net sales for golf grew by 2 percent, while spirits and home security both dropped by 4 percent. The golf business’ operating loss was $20.9 million, a worsening from the loss of $8.5 million the previous year. This included restructuring charges of $9.5 million. Total sales for Fortune Brands were up by 1 percent, spurred by golf.
