Todd Hymel took over as chief executive of Volcom earlier this month as Jason Steris left the action sports company after many years. Hymel moved from Paris to California in June to become the chief executive of action sports brands at Kering, the French company that owns Volcom along with Electric, Puma and a handful of luxury brands. He was previously chief operating officer for the entire Kering Sport & Lifestyle division. Hymel has been with Kering since 2008, when he joined as deputy director in charge of mergers and acquisitions. He is a member of Kering's administrative board reporting to Jean-François Palus, the Kering group's managing director and administrative board chairman. Hymel replaces a very well-known executive in the action sports business. After eight years at Laguna Surf & Sport, an action sports retailer, Steris joined Volcom in 1993 as a sales rep for Southern California. He then became U.S. sales manager, chief operating officer in 1998 and chief executive at the beginning of 2013.
