The executive board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has ratified the program for the Paris 2024 Olympics, confirming among others that they will include break-dancing as a sport for the first time ever. Surfing, climbing, and skateboarding, which were proposed as additional sports by the Paris 2024 organizing committee in March last year, have also been included. The urban sports are expected to be performed at Paris’ Place de la Concorde while the surfing competitions will take place in Tahiti, the largest island in French Polynesia, marking the furthest distance within Olympic competitions within the same Games in history. The Paris 2024 Games will also be fully gender-equal, with an unprecedented 50/50 gender split in participation. The upcoming Tokyo 2020 Games, rescheduled for summer 2021 due to coronavirus, is set to reach an average female participation of 48.8 percent. Paris 2024 will also see mixed events rise from 18 in Tokyo to 22 in Paris.
