UK Athletics, London Marathon Events and The Great Run Company have announced the creation of Athletic Ventures, a new joint venture that is set “to transform the future and growth of athletics in the UK and to deliver major athletics events.” Athletic Ventures is launching ahead of this year’s London Marathon, scheduled for April 21.
UK Athletics is the national governing body for the sport of athletics in the UK. London Marathon Events is the organizer of the London Marathon and the annual cycling festival RideLondon. The Great Run Company is the owner and operator of the Great Run Series, including the Great North Run, now the world’s biggest Half Marathon, according to the company.
Athletic Ventures will deliver the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham and the annual edition of the Diamond League in the UK. In addition, Athletic Ventures will take over the quest to find new commercial partners for athletics in the UK. The joint venture will also lead the potential bid to host the World Athletics Championships in the UK in 2029.
