Umbro has altered its set-up in the Benelux countries yet again with the recruitment of Shifai Ahmadali, who joined as sales manager for the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. Ahmadali, who held several management functions at Coca-Cola in Europe and the Caribbean, is building up a sales team for the English football brand. The Umbro Benelux office will be located in Hilversum, on the European campus of Nike, which bought Umbro in October 2007. Umbro retrieved its rights to the Benelux market two years ago, after the acrimonious termination of a licensing deal with Team Sport for Benelux, Germany and Austria. Last year Umbro recruited Joop Visser, a manager with a long-standing record in the Benelux sports business, to head up its sales in the region. However, this apparently didn’t work out, so that the football brand has hardly been represented in the market for the last two years.
