Umbro has announced that is taking over the distribution in Spain and Portugal from its current licensees as contracts with them expire at the end of this year, but the company says that its “successful” Spanish licensee, Umbro S.L., is going to continue to be involved as a wholesaler and as exclusive distributor of Umbro’s teamwear. A new company in Barcelona, Umbro Iberia, will take over the business under the management of Alex Cucurull. He has been working for Nike Iberia over the last six years, most recently as clubs and federation business manager. Umbro Iberia will open new showrooms for its products in the Iberian region. Company officials indicate that no other similar moves are expected in the near future. As previously reported, another Nike brand, Converse, is taking over the distribution in the U.K. and China from next year.
