The PGA Tour, DP World Tour and Saudi-backed Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced on June 6 an agreement “to unify the game of golf on a global basis,” as we reported earlier. Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal has now opened an inquiry into the merger in his capacity as chairman of the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. The Democratic Senator sent letters to the leadership of both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, requesting details of records and communications between the two groups relating to the dispute and the proposed agreement since October 2021. Answers are due by June 26. The merger was expected to end all pending litigation between the two organizations, according to the announcement.
