VF Corp. has announced that it will stop directly sourcing leather and hides from Brazil, mentioning concerns over the environmental impact made by cattle ranchers clearing land to raise cattle or source timber. This practice is believed to be causing the vast majority of the fires that are currently destroying the Amazon rainforest. The company told Reuters that it will not resume sourcing leather from Brazil until it has the assurance that the materials it uses in its businesses do not contribute to environmental harm in the country. VF Corp. is the company behind The North Face, Timberland, Vans and other brands.
