Violetta Cwiertniak, a Polish export executive, was hired two months ago as international sales manager at Bergson, the young Polish outdoor brand, to expand its European distribution. The brand has grown swiftly since it was established in 2002 by Grzegorz Tryba. He stood at the cradle of Campus, which became the leading Polish outdoor brand, but turned his back on the company after disagreements with his former business partners. Tryba has since opened 15 Bergson stores across Poland, including 5 fully-owned stores. While Bergson concentrates on medium-priced outdoor apparel and backpacks, the company launched a second brand last year, Hayford, to target snowboarders and other active sports people. With annual sales of about €5 million, Bergson already sells in several neighboring countries but Cwiertniak is to explore openings in Scandinavia as well as the UK and Germany.
