Westbeach has been bought up by a British private investor, Tony Marshall, who is currently conducting a strategic review of the business. The Canadian board-rider brand will continue to be based in Vancouver, with an office in the UK. Marshall will act as chairman of a new company, Westbeach UK, which has purchased the Westbeach brand, but Jon Cartwright will manage the operation in Vancouver, acting as its Canadian general manager to strengthen its local design and marketing base. When the Canadian company went bankrupt in April 2006, its chief executive, Mickey McDonald, bought it out together with its Chinese manufacturer, Frankie Hon, and another investor. Fred Royle has been promoted as the new chief executive of Westbeach after ten years with the brand, most recently as brand manager for Europe. Derek Henderson, who has been with the brand for four years, will act as chief financial officer. The new team, which is now in Canada to discuss future strategies, is currently launching the Fall 2008 collection.
