Wildberries, the largest online retailer in Russia, reported an 85 percent increase in sales of sporting goods over the internet between the beginning of May and mid-August. In particular, the demand for electric scooters doubled. Electric bicycles were also among the bestsellers. Sales of all kinds of bicycles climbed by 54 percent, skates by 34 percent and skateboards by 30 percent, against the same period of the previous year. The demand for more classical sporting goods also went up, although the dynamics was not that strong, Wildberries said. The growth appeared to be exceptionally strong in certain Russian provinces such as the Ulyanovsk Oblast, the Chuvashia Republic and the Buryatia Republic. Several Russian regions experienced a stronger shift in demand for sporting goods than Moscow, probably because of a high base effect and the development of renting services in the Russian capital.
