Russia’s largest online retailer, Wildberries, has reported that its turnover in sporting goods outside its domestic market jumped tenfold between January and October 2021, as compared to the same period of the previous year. Wildberries said in a statement that sporting goods represented the fastest-growing segment in its export division, whose total turnover increased by 43 percent to 24.7 billion rubles (€297m-$335m). The sales of goods of Russian origin soared by 88 percent, the company added. Other segments that showed a decent growth rate were household appliances, automotive goods, and sanitary products.

Wildberries experienced strong demand for some products in the markets of France, Germany and Israel. The company, which is currently operating in 14 countries, has been putting a lot of efforts into expanding its international presence. In 2021, it launched its own websites in the U.S., Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Moldova. Recently, the Russian e-commerce giant set up pick-up points in Belarus, Armenia and Kazakhstan to increase its brand awareness in these markets. The company began opening its first branded collection points in Russia in September 2020 and now has over 8,500 of them in place.
