With company officials estimating that the snow sports market has contracted by 20 percent, Tecnica Group has asked public authorities to finance 118 temporary layoffs from its staff of 418 employees at Giovera del Montello, where its Italian head office and production unit is located. This would be in addition to 36 company employees who have this status already. As already reported in SGI Europe, the company has suffered major declines in orders for skis and ski boots for the next autumn/winter season. The new round of layoffs is part of a gradual re-sizing process that should start in September and affect a wide range of functions at various levels in all the group's offices around the world. Future product ranges will be more concentrated. The company has updated its three-year business plan accordingly.
