With three more stores due to open in Spain next month, Courir will be meeting its goal of operating 15 stores in Spain before the year is out. It will have opened 11 during 2019. The 12th of these opened just a few days ago at the X-Madrid “anti-mall” in Alcorcón. Three more sites are in the pipeline in Bilbao, Valencia and Madrid. According to CMDsport, Courir has at least three more openings set for Spain in the new year in Seville, Barcelona and Vigo. Also planned is a flagship store in Madrid. Courir's broader plan is to have 60 stores in Spain by 2022, along with 20 to 25 more in Portugal. The French retail chain's entry into that country should take place in mid-2020, and Lisbon will be among the first cities to get a store. As reported (SGI Europe Vol. 30 N° 33+34 of April 4, 2019), Equistone, the investment fund that bought the Courir chain from Groupe Go Sport of France in March, wants to see its annual sales grow from $300 million to €600 million by 2025. Its expansion outside France is pivotal to this strategy. After entering the Spanish market, it has also moved into Luxembourg and re-entered the Belgian market.
