Without confirming a report that the Adidas Group is phasing out 500 jobs in Europe, a spokesman said that it is adapting its organizational structures and processes to become more efficient, looking also for new talent for its digital business. All in all, he indicated, the European staff will remain more or less stable and increase internationally. By Sept. 30, it counted a total of 57,493 people worldwide, up from 56,026 a year earlier. The report about the European layoffs came out through an Italian news service, Askanews, which said that 41 employees in Italy will be affected, mainly in the finance department of Adidas Italia, where some functions are being outsourced in Portugal. A union official told the news service that this would be unfair, considering that sales grew in Italy by 15 percent in 2018.
