YKK Corporation has released “This is YKK 2023,” the annual overview of its business and management activities, including long-term value creation and sustainability efforts. The report, which covers the period from Apr. 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023 (FY2022), shares the company’s progress in addressing five sustainability areas: climate change, material resources, water resources, chemical management and respect for people. These efforts align with the targets outlined in the YKK Sustainability Vision 2050, which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. YKK has also compiled a separate “Data Book” detailing the company’s finances and environmental, social, and governance efforts.

Highlights from the report include YKK achieving a 46.9 percent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas reduction (GHG) emissions and a 20.9 percent reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions in FY2022 (from a FY2018 baseline). The share of textiles in fastening products using recycled, plant-derived and other sustainable materials rose 14 points year-on-year to 26 percent. In addition, the number of locations worldwide operating on purchased power derived from 100 percent renewable energy increased by 20 locations from the prior year to 31. FY2022 also saw the approval of a partnership with Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals Programme (ZDHC) to devise ZDHC guidelines for zippers and buttons.
