Ykk is working on the development of an “Eco-Dye” technology that aims to reduce to nearly zero the quantity of water used for dyeing zippers. The company is currently working on the application of the Sfd technology, a method which uses carbon dioxide (CO2) as a dyeing medium that makes it possible to reduce water use to almost zero and avoids waste water problems. With this system, carbon dioxide can be collected and recycled once it has been used. In addition, Sfd technology does not require drying, another advantage that contributes to the reduction of energy use. As of January 2015, the actual date for the release and commercialization of Eco-Dye products has yet to be determined.
