Zalando, the Berlin-based online retailer, is currently testing same-day delivery with electric cars. The online retailer recently started a pilot project in Hamburg with 24 electric cars, which are operated on 100 percent green electricity. Zalando works with various logistics partners. Hamburg's urban area has 600 charging stations for electric cars. The pilot project in the city will run for three months, initially serving customers of Zalando Plus, the company's premium delivery service. Zalando has also recently opened a new logistical center in Poland. This will provide goods for more than 15 million customers worldwide from its “lounge web store,” the sales channel for German-based e-tailer's closeout sales. Fiege e-Com will manage the logistical center with 500 employees. It is located in Olztynek and covers 130,000 square meters. Fiege e-Com expects the number of employees to double. The new logistical center is one of 15 that Zalando plans to open in six countries in the coming years. Another is planned for Lódz, Poland, in 2020.
