Asics has released its 2022 Sustainability Report, which outlines the company’s progress toward its medium- and long-term sustainability targets. Asics’ sustainability framework encompasses the two main pillars of “People” and “Planet,” both aligned with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The introduction of the “Gel-Lyte III CM 1.95” sneaker is highlighted as “the headline result for 2022.” The sneaker is said to emit just 1.95 CO2e per pair across its product lifecycle, making it “the world’s lowest CO2 emissions sneaker, according to Asics.
Under the People pillar, the percentage of female managers at the company increased from 33.7 percent to 38.3 percent in 2022. Asics has committed to achieving a ratio of female representation in management and senior positions of at least 35 percent globally by 2023. Also in 2022, the company developed the “Asics Human Rights Policy,” and established a Human Rights Committee to define expectations and guidance for the suppliers across its value chain. In 2022, Asics invested over $820,000 in community contributions and donations in kind.
Under the Planet pillar, Asics was featured in a Ministry of the Environment’s presentation at the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Egypt as the case study of a company that takes climate action throughout the supply chain. Asics reduced its CO2 emissions by 22 percent from its direct operations in 2022. The company targets Net Zero emissions by 2050. Asics is also making progress towards replacing 100 percent of the polyester use by 2030. The company replaced more than 30 percent of standard polyester materials in 2022.
